Its a bit strange that the car (XJ220) was offered with no reserve, yet failed to sell.

Maybe I should bid them £500 post sale. You never know your luck.

On another tack, Covid would seem to have stopped the classic car market not one bit.

The prices they have achieved are excellent. The market looks strong. £180k for an Evo Mercedes Cosworth. £420k for an XK120, £42k for a 928. It goes on and on.

Well done those boys at Silverstone, to put on a sale of that success deserves reward.

It was me really , I couldn't resist all its early (faux) features. £1 well spent I think.

True. They will.

Of course the truth of the matter is that they are both superb cars. and each one worth £300k.

I would be happy to have either one!

Happy being an understatement.

You sit here eating crisps and think:

- not sold at auction
- agreement made shortly afterwards (would not have been that cheap)
- only a few weeks later the car turns up at a dealer and sells straight away (he will most likely not have offered her as a bargain)

This all might be the case, but does appear to be a bit odd, doesn't it?!

Probably as straightforward as this:
Unsold at auction
Carl/Tom Hartley in attendance looking for stock, makes an offer which is accepted
Puts on the website with a suitable profit margin
Sells quickly

Couple of other nice E-Types on their website also.

Auction Purchase.

Sold as seen, possibly only able to view online with Covid restrictions.
No test drive,
No finance offered.
No option to part exchange a vehicle against it.
No warranty.

Dealer Purchase.

Finance,
Part exchange,
As long as you want to test drive, inspect or arrange inspection,
Basic warranty, and consumer rights.

I don't think there's anything odd. If you can afford to wait for the right buyer, letting a reputable dealer or Marque specialist like Moss Jaguar or E type UK sell your car for you is probably a better option than auction, certainly at the moment with Covid restrictions.
