Ah. When I tried to look up 'mob' as a slang term via Google, there were many definitions, most not suitable for a family friendly forum. 'Mobile' was not among any of the definitions I found.

To the OP.

60's Jaguar wiring is all colour coded, and to be honest, it's not too hard.

All you need is a bit of courage, a voltmeter, an ohmmeter and little common sense.

Have a go. You'll enjoy it.

Hi
Is it a complete re-wire? If so, a ‘mobile’ sparks is not really a viable option unless they are willing to spend a fair few days at your place. Having done it myself on pretty much a bare shell, i would not trust it to someone who didn’t know ETypes as you would just be paying them to learn where all the separate looms go, before they get to the ‘easy’ bit of connecting it all up. As commented in other replies, with the Coventry wiring manual in one hand and some basic wiring tools/testers in the other, it’s a diy option if you fancy it. What state is the car in - if it’s being restored and there’s no trim, dash, carpet etc in place or much under the bonnet then if you don’t diy, I’d get it trailered to a firm who know E-Types.

It is not hard as others have said...I do wire classic cars....I've built custom looms for morgans, Alfa Romeos and others and installed ready built looms in E types, XK's TVR's , MG's.....if you get stuck PM me. Julian

I have a facility to print off the colour wiring diagrams from the knowledge section.

Any size right up to A0.

A number of forum members have taken me up on my offer and they always seem pleased.

No charge. It’s my small way of giving something back.

PM me if interested with your address.

Cheers
Ash

PS definitely get the Coventry wiring book too.

Fitting a new loom into a bare shell isn't too bad a job, try Anthony Fisher 07876612972 he can certaintLY do it and is very mobile.

He has done some for me, including fitting S1 Autosparks looms and re-terminating a LHD to RHD loom

Not sure how he feels about Essex, you will have to ask him!
Its true, but Enzo never said it

I am herts/bucks boarder...Stansted from me is around 1 hour 20 mins probably...As David says all the loom diagrams are in the knowledge section. So long as you have the right loom for your car and get them correctly placed then an autosparks loom will sprout the appropriate wires in the right places. You will have a rag bag collection of odds and sods but reference to the colours will usually indicate what they are for...

When I fit looms I do NOT use the battery for testing but a stabilised 12 volt supply with electronic current limit at 10 amps so there is no chance of a fault causing a major smoke episode. If you do use the battery for testing (unwise) then put a 12 volt 21 watt.bulb in the negative from the battery to earth. so even if you do have a major short somewhere the worst that happens is the 21watt bulb lights at full brightness and current is limited to around 1.75 amps and the smoke stays in the wires and does not escape!!!!!

I agree. For testing I use a charger with a limiting device which limits the current to 4 amps and then cuts out . A professor of electronics I met on a JEC course was horrified, saying that I was using mixed AC/DC current which just would not do !! The academic as against the practical approach!

a cheap charger just rectifies AC from the secondary of the transformer so you get a very rough DC....fine for charging a battery but may upset electronics....and will be unregulated so the no load voltage may be considerably higher than the 12 volts you might expect....you might pop small bulbs.....which is why I use a 13.5 volt regulated pure DC supply   And mind also has an ammeter to monitor the current drain...

Having rewired 3 or is it 4 cars with my charger as a test device I have never had any bulb trouble - in fact my charger hasn't got enough waft to keep the lights on, and none of my cars have any electronics! I agree if you can use the proper thing that's fine, but my tactic is much better than a fire and /or blown fuses all the time

Most certainly is Christopher...and your charger may have voltage regulation....some.do....easy way to find out....measure the no load voltage at the leads.....13 or 14 volts and it probably has some form of regulation.... above 15 and it may not....most bulbs will be fine as they impose enough load to bring the voltage back to 13 or so....a single small bulb e.g pilot bulb and it may not load enough to drop the voltage....either way it is better than testing with a car battery....
