#1 Classic Motoring Magazines.

Post by Fuel.inj » Wed Dec 02, 2020 5:21 pm

I usually buy various classic motoring magazines and am not particularly biased towards any in particular, but with the 60th anniversary of the E-Type looming I have purchased whatever is available.
Having scanned through the latest issue of Classic and Sports Car (which I am not a great fan of incidentally) I was particularly disappointed by the total bias in favour of either S1 or S3 models with no mention or inclination at all to S2’s in any form. They are still E-Types after all for goodness sake, and a bargain to boot in some instances for half the price of a S1.
Rant over, but I value other forum members views.

I understand your rant, but you have nothing to rant about with a FHC - I've got a 2+2, which hardly ever gets a mention!

It's the S2 owner's lot in life

Console yourself with the thought that when those self-same magazines highlight the E-type's shortcomings, most of those were addressed with the introduction of the S2

The S2 is the enhanced and improved version of the S1. Ask Angus. But don’t tell everyone or they’ll all want one

I feel I have bought the right car and I love it! No regret at all but amazed at the bias of journalism.

As an S3 2+2 owner, I've always felt at the bottom of the pecking order in e type circles.

Having said that one day my pile of bits in the garage will emerge as a beautiful swan (even if you have to pick your angle to view the car at its best).

Best

Stuff the concours crowd, to hell with the early cars are best ninnies, you can keep your outside bonnet locks, flat floors, 3.8 engines and Moss boxes. I’ll quietly smile to myself, as I get all the E-Type driving thrills from my bag-of-nails 2+2. It is every bit an E-Type, has the same view of the road over that bonnet. And (this is the best bit) everyone outside the precious enthusiast circle, thinks it is one of those £200k E-Types. I don’t tell.

A little late to add comments. However, I have contacted the powers that be in the E-type Club about the total lack of consideration for the 50th Anniversary of the Series. Of perhaps more significance, is the launch of the V12 engine in the same year, and of course, the same car. I await a reply. Apart from being rude, I find this arrogant. I will persist.

There are journalists who will agree about the S2....better brakes, better lights, still essentially the same profile as the S1 rather than the flared arches etc of the S3....all e types are fab...

Dear Barry,
I am waiting for the day when an "ugly" rubber bumpered but original US s3 beats a nice shiny faux covered headlight s1.5 "restoration" (which is so obviously covered in new epoxy 2pack paint) in a concours competition. It'll never happen, but we live in hope.

I just tell people mine is a kit car ("... it's one of those 'Contenders'...") and everyone goes away happy.

kind regards
Marek

Being a Series 2 owner I have come to accept that....

All E types are equal but some are more equal than others.

Watch this space. Octane magazine may well do a S3 V12 article. They have been late to the table in E-type 60. I am talking to them about doing an article of my 6.0 litre car with the last crated V12 engine, compared with a totally original car. Maybe, we will see....
