#1 Sherwood green on the E type

Post by Lual » Tue Jan 12, 2021 10:21 pm

Hi all,

I saw few weeks ago the F Type heritage 60 Edition on this beautiful Sherwood green.
Color looks pretty good imo, and quite different from the classic one.
Anybody knows how does it look in real life? Same as in the picture?

I am about to paint my S1 in gunmetal and am seriously thinking on changing to this green, although I assume it is a “new” color, not from the 60’s, or at least a modern reinterpretation.

Sherwood green was a factory color for the E type, not sure of the years though. Seems it may have been offered in both opalescent and not.

One of the E's I looked at before buying my current one was a one owner original paint FHC in opalescent(?) Sherwood Green with green leather interior. 1966 if I remember correctly. A really beautiful color, but in this instance the car, though very unmolested, was visibly very rotten in the floor pans and sills so I took a pass. Should have bought it and just set it aside, as I think he was asking $8000 (in 2003).

Thanks for the info and link. First picture is clearly the color I knew, but the color in my original post seems more “brilliant “, so looks more modern, and I ignore if it is even available or is just a one-off by Jaguar

Interesting : Sherwood green was most certainly a solid rather than a metallic colour, and the shade on my computer screen looks absolutely nothing like it

Hi Christopher...there were quite a few Jag models over the years available in various shades but called "Sherwood Green" as far as im aware.... all very different to what we know from the "original" E type colour.......Although the Jag marketing info says its the original as per 60 years ago i wouldnt be supprised if they hadnt done their home work correctly...Steve

Steve : I remember the colour well, and it was only ever a solid colour with a slightly greyer hue than brg. As far as Jaguar heritage people are concerned, I am afraid that the ones I have met seem to have difficulty distinguishing their coccyx from their olecranon

I contacted Jaguar Land River Classic Works.

They asked me to contact Morelli, a company that supplies most of the paint shops in UK including theirs. Probably is known to some of you.

At Morelli, they tell me they can help me, but they require a colour code from me as there are around 7 variants of the colour.

Only 7....

Will keep trying

I received today an email from Jaguar classic, with some paint codes as per the below. However, is still unclear to me if the codes relate to those of the picture in the 60 anniversary.

Colour Sherwood Green
Year Range 1957-68
Old RM # JA028
New RM # 7417
Glasurit # JAG-605

Glasurit JAG-605 is certainly given as the code for Sherwood green in the xke database, which is the most reliable source of colour pictures.

http://www.xkedata.com/catalog/colors/

However, as I stated at the outset, the xkedata colour is definitely the slightly grey/green colour I remember, and it is nothing like the Heritage 60th anniversary colour

They just replied me that they are unable to provide the exact paint code on such a limited edition.
A pity.

That sounds like them giving you BS. If you give any decent paint factor the car info he will get you the code.

I cant believe a car manufacturer would release a car to the public that couldn't be touched up from day 1.

Remembered I had a few Sherwood Green E type pictures, seemed a shame not to post them. Try a few different light angles.

Images 3 and 5 look closest to my eye, James, although on the whole I would favour a paler tone like the one shown on xkedata

Hello Christopher,
I will take some more pictures in direct sunlight of the same car.
It is surprising what a difference it makes to the shade!

Absolutely beautiful car!

Thanks for posting.

I had already given up on that color, but I am not sure now, seeing this, if I should stick to the gunmetal or change back.

This color with a tobacco or similar interior can be a game changer.
