But I am fairly sure they were a legal requirement when new

Say you were caught between 2 cars without the overriders they were originally fitted with to prevent bumper locking and your legs were cut off, for instance

Joe
If they were a legal requirement then why weren't all cars fitted with them? None of my previous 60's cars had overriders fitted apart from the Jag's & Daimlers.

I'm not sure it is illegal to completely remove bumpers, either. It would be illegal to remove them and leave the mounting hardware in place - you would get pulled for "dangerous parts" but not for the absence of the bumpers.

I would have thought that getting caught on the knee by an overrider would do more damage than a plain bumper.

All this said, I think I prefer the E-Types with overriders fitted.

Regards
Stuart

Quite so, Stuart. I know of no requirement under the various UK Construction and Use Regulations requiring overriders to be fitted, and can point to many cars e.g. Hillman Imp which did not have them. I think what Joe may be thinking of was the various USA regulations which most certainly did require them, this being a consequence of the quaint N.American parking habits

I actually like the look of the HELM version. I think the bit different look is also caused by the wider tyres. Do you guys possibly know what are the sizes of the tyres and rims? Or the more precise question is how is it possible to fit such wide tyres? Are the bumpers wider? I was just able to find that the tyres are Avon ZZ Fast road tyres.

Thanks, Mikey.

I just found this image https://static.wixstatic.com/media/4187 ... /~mv2.webp. So those are 225/65R15 tyres, as it looks like as a standard fender they probably removed the bump stops.
