#1 Insurance......

Post by chrisfell » Wed Apr 20, 2022 11:23 am

I've just had a renewal notice through for my E. Pleasantly surprised as the premium is 25% lower than last year, and it is in line with the cheapest (of the specialist classic car insurers) I can find. So I'll renew for another year.

Meanwhile I have had to keep my E behind closed garage doors for the last week and a bit, as following a visit to Goodwood (Members Meeting) I have been testing positive for Covid. This Easter weekend trips were out, and as I am still testing positive, it seems this weekend's Drive It Day will also be out. I remain optimistic that I can make the JDC E-Type Register's Goodwood track day (although I will never thrash my delicate tarted up E around the circuit) on May 2.

Sorry to hear about the Covid. Hope you make a prompt recovery. Very interesting to hear that you insurance dropped this time around (I can't remember the last time that happened). Out of interest, who do you go through (if you're happy to say).

Drive it Day may still be on the cards here..... However, we appear to have a shortage of Shell VPower / Tesco Momentum locally which may preclude me from being able to drive far (if at all).

I was also surprised when my insurance quote for my main car came through, for the first time in years the premium was lower than last year. I think a new law came out that insurance companies can't charge existing customers more than they advertise/quote new customers. Wish you a fast recovery.

I'll be there as usual Chris, although this year instead of the E I'm taking my black F Type, so pop over and say hello if you make it

Insurance photos this year. Taken in yesterday’s sunshine.

Despite being the ugly sister in the range, the 2+2 still has some good angles. And, the best bit is the driving experience is all E-Type.

One of our last restos was a S1 2+2.

While not the same lines as the coupe the extra 9" of useable space made the car lovely to use, and work on for me.

I'd buy one.

I'm always curious with these insurance prices. Living in London obviously has an effect, but mine this year was the same as last (with Heritage). Lancaster were much more expensive and tried Hegerty this year who were more than double. Adrian Flux didn't return my calls. I've tried multi-car with my modern cars but they weren't interested, especially with the guaranteed value.

I pay £420 for guaranteed value with named drivers and 5,000 mile limit. Seems expensive, does London make that much of a difference, especially given that I'm in outer London and head out, not into town.

I’ve always insured through Classicline Insurance. Agreed value of £145k and 5000 miles - £280. I’m in Lincolnshire but a Peterborough post code. Being in London may carry an increased risk factor, but it may be worth trying them?

Thanks. I've renewed in March so will try them next time. TBH I get weary of it as I have three cars and a house to insure at the same time

In my experience with shopping around, it doesn't really matter where you live or what job you do etc.. If you tell them you've already had a quote for £60 less, they will somehow magically beat that.
So much of the premium is commission for the insurance agent, who, of course, are not the underwriters.

Crazy.
Mine is due for renewal soonish, so I entered all the guff on their website only to be told the car was too specialist for an online quote, so I called them and after going through more details I was given a quote of £420.

Lower agreed value, same annual mileage. I'm in rural Northants not far from Richard. I think RH will still get me a better cost when I come to renew. There you go, but always worth checking elsewhere.
