#1 New Shell V-Power

Post by Philk » Thu Feb 16, 2023 11:24 am

I've just received a mail from Shell highlighting that their new V-Power fuel goes on sale on 8th March. It has already been launched in a few countries (see link below to Malaya).

As a regular V-Power user for our S1 3.8, does anyone have any insights into this as to whether this is likely to be a good evolution for a classic engine?

Unfortunately they don't provide details or figures for RON or Ethanol levels in fuel (E5 or E10?). I can guess that under new regulation it will have to be E10 but can't say for sure.

It will be a huge pity if its changed from E5 to E10

When any company starts a big advertising campaign for 'new and improved' you can guarantee they are doing it to smoke screen something unpalatable. My guess is E10 but they are avoiding all mention of ethanol.

I used to use V Power but changed to Esso Supreme for two reasons:

* It contains zero ethanol (except in Devon & Cornwall).

* I get 6p per litre discount with an Esso card through the Porsche club.

It is labelled as E5 (by law) but that means all fuel labelled as such contains upto 5% ethanol. In Esso's Supreme case, that is 0%.

I go go along with you on that Phil. I only use Esso Supreme in my cars and bikes if I can, and fortunately have an Esso Station very near to me.
