#1 Wiper Adjustment Locknut on firewall, 1/2" x 26 TPI Cycle

Post by DWW » Wed Aug 02, 2023 5:44 pm

I am missing the bolt that secures the wind screen wiper adjuster to the bulkhead, couldn't find the info anywhere here. If anyone knows the size or has a spare one I would be grateful.

Hi Danny....look at the part number in the parts catalogue then use the bolt decoder in the knowledge base to calculate what the size/thread is....or with the part number try a Google search.....or if you can remove one just use a thread guage to see what you have..guages cheap on ebay....Steve

What bolt? There’s a thin nut but no bolt I’m aware of?

Sorry I did mean the thin nut, you are right. On the end of the adjuster there are these two thin nuts to secure the assembly to the firewall. I am missing the outer one.

Measure the thread then its easier to find one to fit..you may find it's the same size as on the speedo reset...Steve ps.. a quick search typically finds the answer viewtopic.php?f=3&t=15358&p=125371&hili ... ut#p125371

Danny, I’m looking for that same locking nut for the firewall wiper adjustment cable.

Image

Can you tell me under what criteria you found it on Ebay, please ?

I forgot to measure the TPI before I poked it through, so the visible threads make it difficult to be categorical, but it’s either 1/2” x 24 TPI or alternatively 26 TPI.

Former is visibly a “Brass Thread” and second is a Cycle pitch, my hunch is it’s that.

Be nice to find a correct thin nut with the double chamfer.

Any observations / suggestions very welcome.

#15 Wiper Adjustment Locknut on firewall, size

"Engage rummaging search-engine before operating keyboard".

The reward for hoarding odd nuts for 40+ years in a drawer marked "Cycle, various" is :

Image

It's 1/2" x 26 TPI or Cycle Thread.

Too thick to be credible, and not plated, but it's a start.

UPDATE : Found this, with UK shipping £6.34 ........... do I need it that badly ??? :scratchheadyellow:

Well spotted.

Danny, if you could perhaps Edit your original post so the title reads

Wiper Adjustment Locknut on firewall, 1/2" x 26 TPI Cycle

then I think it will change the title on all the following replies, and make it easier for someone else to search for ?

Cheers,

Rory

Thanks .......

Same principle, Steve, but not - unfortunately - the same kind of nut, nor the same thread.
