3.8 5 speed gearbox knob
#1 3.8 5 speed gearbox knob
Anyone know if anyone out there makes the black 3.8 gear knob as original but with 5 speed and reverse on it?
I know Uryk had them made and supplied them with his 5 speed gearboxes, not seen them anywhere else, having said that I haven't looked.
I have the Classic Jaguar 5 speed box, it came with a very nice matt aluminium gear knob but just doesn't look original.

SNG used to sell such a knob, with reverse right and back. Same size as the factory knob. Probably is still on offer from them.

A shame that JLR quotes such a ridiculous price.

Thinking about it today the gear knob is a standard part its only plastic part at the top that is different I would guess, they must be making a massive profit out of them, I hope they don't sell any of them
lets see what offers are in the classic JLR black Friday sale

Why not just stick with the original 4 speed knob? If you need the knob engraved with the 5th gear position you really should not be driving, or consider a move to an automatic

I have considered that option David, as you say by now I am well aware where each gear is and that is probably the option I will go with.
I thought it would be nice to have an original style gear knob with a 5th gear on if one was available at a reasonable price.
Thinking about it, whoever makes the gear knob with the 5th gear on has taken a standard gear knob and replaced the plastic insert, that can't be too hard to do so are making a massive mark up.

I noticed an advert that said Classic Jaguar Landrover are having a black Friday sale, 20% off using code SALE20.
I tried the discount and it works, its now come down to £277.49 + £4.99 delivery.
Knock another £150 off and I'll get one

Hi Dave,
My current quandry is that I have one of each !
Which do I fit ?
The 5-speed one came on the Medatronics JT5, and for 10 years I fitted it, pure preening really.
Now I'm older (Ed - and sadder) I'm tempted to make the car a "sleeper" and hide the fact it's got one more gear, by re-fitting the 4-speed original.
But at my age I may end up forgetting there are 5 in there

This is a knob on a 5 speed in my Sprite. It’s on a 1980 Datsun 210 5 speed.
This is a Repro knob for a Datsun 510 from the 70s. It came with a vaiety of thread adapters.
Got it from a supplier of Datsun stuff. Something like Foto or Futo.
If interested I’ll see if I can find the receipt.
Very similar to the 3.8 knob. Nice shape.
Here’s the site-pick you color, $39. Click on Datsun 510 parts on the site. Nice heavy feel.
The thread adapters are brass and screw into brass core inside the knob. I would think the M8 coukd be rethreaded for a 5/16” course if needed or other than noted adapters may be available.
