#1 First drive this year ....

Post by Phil » Wed Feb 18, 2009 7:31 pm

Hello :D

Last Saturday I made the pictures of my E in the snow in my drive way
http://etypeuk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=429&start=60

Sunday was dry and then it started to rain and Monday + Tuesday . The rain washed the roads

Today was dry, clear sky and cold... I thought, it is time now.
End of the day, the sun was going away, I went to the garage, opened the doors, started the engine and went for 1 h drive .
The last time was Dec.30th . It is the first year in 7 years that I had to wait so long to be able to go out with the cat.

All went very well and on some straigths I had the RPM up to 5000 8)
Glad I seized the moment. They forecast -8?C at night, who knows what will follow.

I know, this will not change the world, but that was a nice moment .

Hope you all can do the same soon

That's the spirit Philippe.

We've got to use these cars, we can't just look at them! Mind you, your car does look good!

I took my wife out to lunch in mine yesterday and strangely found myself coming back up the Kop Hill hillclimb course - well, you have to press on a bit when going up an historic hillclimb I find........

The advert for Bonham's sale on 7th February showed the Bugatti Brescia "Black Bess" in action on the Kop Hill hillclimb course. It is not as dusty now as it was back then!

Just got mine out for its first run, so I thought I would start as I mean to go on, at the petrol station whilst taking my mum home after dinner.

I'll try and get a more exotic picture next time, of the car that is.

Philippe, Erik and all the others,

Being really nice weather today here in the South of Holland, I no longer could resist the yearning to get my E-type back home.
So I called the man where she is hibernating and asked if I could pick her up this evening.
No problem, he said, come round a 5.30 this afternoon.

So I had my first drive of the season, drove to a gas station and filled her up.
I thought I was driving on fumes. The fuel meter indicating empty and the
amber light permanent on.
No idea at all how much fuel is still in the tank with those indications.

So, an emptiness has been filled. Both inside my mind and in the garage.

Hello Jos

great news ! I am happy you have the E back home :D
Another driving season is starting, hope you enjoyed it and still found it confortable.
I do not know how empty you tank can go when the ligth begin to shine, mine I think it is about 10L (50-70km?).
I will certainly go for a drive tomorow also.
We should try to find a date for a "spring " get together , even just for an afternoon with people from over here.

see you soon !

Hi Philippe,

Yes, driving is no problem now. Walking is fine too, no problems there.
I am making progress in bending the knee too, a new therapist is working on the bending as if he wants a job at the Holy Inquisition. That hurts.

Lets find a date for a get together.
Did you hear from Roger Rutten lately? It is very quiet from him.
Willem has moved to his now house last WE in Venlo.
That will keep him busy for a while too.

Have a nice weekend,

Jos

Hello Jos

glad driving is no problem. The rest will follow certainly.

No news from Roger on my side either.
Shall we try to meet for an afternoon somewhere inthe middle ?

Erik, are there good roads near Zolder ? (not really in the middle...but having our E's there could be nice.) or we go in the area of Li?ge?

there are other options later (last WE May in Ciney with a oldtimer fair and flea market).

keep in touch

By the way , I drove my E today on the La Roche-Samr?e Hillclimb 8)

Good idea, Philippe.

I would like to meet again, the winter has been too long.
Zolder or region Liege is fine by me.

The E-type is behaving good, took her out yesterday for a short drive.

Hello Jos, Erik, and anyone else interested,

weather forecast looks fine for Saturday ;
are you OK to meet Saturday afternoon ?

we could meet somewhere early afternoon, have a drive, a drink and chat and then each one back to its home for the evening.

I would sugest a place where we can drive or park safely.
Not sure about Zolder area?
Now anyway meeting somewhere we will have to drive to there, so maybe we will not need to drive on site where we meet and spend the time in having a drink and chat?
Ideas welcome.

suggestions :

- Tongeren
- Tilff (near Li?ge)
- Stavelot (near Spa...) to visit the Spa circuit museum?
- Vis? ? or area ?

up to you now...

Hello Philippe,

I could make it in the early afternoon but I have to be home before 17:30.
We go to a party of my wifes niece. She turns 21 this WE.
Tempus fugit , if I spell that correctly. I was around when she was born.

Zolder has a large parking space outside the gates, don't know if one can have a drink there.
Tillf or Vis? is fine for me.
Spa is, for this Saturday, too far.

Drove around 200 miles last Tuesday, went to Tilburg and on to Leerdam.

Ah, yes. You can test the Electrical power steering of course.

Phil,
Jos,

Unfortunately , I am in the US for the whole of this week returning only on Sunday morning, so I - very very reluctantly- have to pass.
