Looks very good Simon
It's a shame the reproduction GRP Housings BD19714 are often so badly made....don't suppose you know of a good quality source..?

I purchased a reproduction housing from an ebay seller called 'Andy-puddle' . Haven’t fitted it yet but looks superb and much better finished than others I have viewed.

The item number is: 272769747111 - £42 + P&P

Does anyone reproduce the heater box plenum? I did buy one a few years back but its a rough old thing and didnt fit well. This is the manifold that bolts to the bonnet and directs ram air into the heater fan.

Julian Barratt has been in touch to say they now have the new improved brake light switch in stock. This has been tested by Forum member Julian (Cactusman) and has been used on the SNGB E-Type since 2016.
Image
Direct link: https://www.sngbarratt.com/uk/#!/Englis ... 4beb9c38a3

Part number is C16062U (the “U” is the important bit!) and they are available now from the SNGB web site and there will be stock at Stoneleigh. At last a hydraulic brake light switch that can be relied upon.

SNGB have now reproduced the flat topped plenum seen on the 3.8 cars (up to about March 1963).
Image
Direct link: https://www.sngbarratt.com/uk/#!/Englis ... 7bd59e3310

Jaguar changed the plenum to the fluted version but the part number C17533 remained the same. SNGB differentiate the flat topped version by having a /1 suffix so order C17533/1 if you need one.

The rubber seal between the bumpers and bodywork parts BD18947/1 and BD18947/2 were originally very narrow unlike the reproduction seals available today.

Image
Image

Current reproduction seal:
Image

The seals increased in thickness culminating with the very thick S3 seals. We assume this was because production tolerances increased and the wider seals allowed the bumper fitting to be easier and quicker with a greater margin for error. Once you see the narrow seal on a car you realise how big and ugly the later seals are especially if you car is painted in anything other than black.

The correct narrow bumper seals made to original specification are available from the exclusive distributor E-Conic if you want a set: angus.moss@e-conic.net They can be used on any S1 car although were originally used up until early 1963.

Angus Moss has made a short run of the 'Special Wrench for Handbrake Adjustment' C18636, a specially made 4⅛in long 5/32in AF Allen key with a black oxide finish. Although the manual handbrake adjustment was replaced by the self adjusting mechanism in February 1962 Jaguar forgot to delete the tool from the toolkit and so continued to be supplied throughout 3.8 production and also included within all 4.2 E-type Toolkits up to 1968 although there is no mention of it in the J37 SPC. A real oddity but it has been observed in all 4.2 toolkits. For some reason they are usually missing from the tool kit, certainly it had gone from the otherwise complete and original one in my FHC! Originals command very high prices and reproduction ones that appear on eBay are nothing more then standard cut down Allen keys with no attempt to replicate the angled end or the chamfered head. Angus used a well preserved original as a template for this copy which is indistinguishable from the Jaguar one in every respect.

Angus is selling these for £50 + postage + VAT whilst stocks last. Contact him via PM or email if you want one: angus@mossjaguar.com

Julian Barratt has been in touch to say they are now producing S1 headlamp chrome retaining screws BD22780 and BD26675 in stainless steel. This came out of a request from Angus because the stock screws quickly rust:

They are available as BD22780/4SS (slot head) and BD26675/4SS (Phillips head) from SNGB

Butlers number plate light chrome bezels are now available:

"Hi Guys.

Just like to say I manufacture these Butlers Chrome surrounds. They are certainly not made in China. They are made by hand so they are the same as the original items. As with all parts I am manufacturing (all of the etype hardtop chrome trims, reproduction hardtops, etc) the aim is to manufacture high quality parts that are not available. A huge amount of development has gone into getting these parts 100% correct.

If they were made in China then the price would be far less........... but so would the quality.

Tim"

£300 + £15 p&p from Tim Goldthorp at Classic Quality (Parts) Limited of Ludlow http://www.classicquality.co.uk/

They were fitted to approximately the first 1,250 cars (Oct/Nov 1961) and everything we know about them can be found here: http://forum.etypeuk.com/viewtopic.php?p=35522#p35522

SNGB sell the complete number plate assembly (not marked Butlers or Lucas) for £25 each if you need them to complete a set of Butlers lights.

REPRODUCTION PARKER-KALON SCREWS

The fuel tank board was initially retained by five Parker-Kalon 'J' type set screws #BD19059/1 and one self tapping (hex head?) screw #BD20641/1. The set screws had flange type countersunk cup washers #BD18545 whilst the self-tapper had a special washer #BD541/34. Please see Factory Fit Thread for more details - there were 2 types of PK screws but I am not sure of the differences.

I spoke with Richard Smith reference the PK scews - and he has kindly had some produced. The washers are more problematic and I am researching possible supppliers - of interest, I have seen two diameter of these washers 3/4 and 7/8.

Image

Image

I guess I have to add I have no financial interest in this and Richard was doing me a kind favour.
