#1 Tour de France Auto - anyone done it ?

Post by rfs1957 » Mon Feb 02, 2015 3:59 pm

Has anyone done the Tour de France Auto organised by Peter Auto ?

http://peterauto.peter.fr/en/evenement/ ... tic%202ooo

2015 is 20 - 25 April.

Most of what is written on the net seems to be puff-pieces from interested parties.
And since I can drive round France starting when I put my tea cup down, would be v.interested what anyone thinks of adding 9.000E for the pleasure.

There seem to me to be far too many cars . The Euroclassic was bad enough even with entries limited to 100 . Interestingly, the Euroclassic has succumbed to a loss of interest because of escalating costs, which the last time I went on it about 3 years ago was about ? 2250 per car plus accommodation which came to between ?2000 and ? 2800 per car depending on whether you had double or single rooms i.e. an average total of about ? 4650 = say Euro 5500. I also gave up because I objected to what I will call the hooligan element which had crept in, with a small proportion of participants, by no means all of them young , thinking they were Sebastian Loeb - all that was missing was the skill !

We did this one: http://www.rallyedesalpes.com/ It was great fun if you a) don't take it too seriously and b) don't expect to win! Fantastic food and accommodation and some great routes that you would never find yourself. Highly recommended.

Absolutely far too many entrants - did the Euroclassic in 2012 with 66 entries and that was too many plus packing and unpacking bags every night at a different hotel was not relaxing! Find a small tour, like Backwater Tours, not the cheapest but personal attention.

Still keen to talk to someone who has actually done it, I get the point about too many people but since some go back for more there must be an upside too.

Looked at the Alpes thing David, it appears to have ground to a halt in 2015 unfortunately, insufficient interest.

Ha !

Eight years older, and Deeper in Debt ; St Peter don’t call me cause I can’t……..

I never did this TdF thing, but it’s still itching.

My question remains, has anyone actually done it, or know someone who has ?

The videos have a slight aura of posh twits with too much money and trophy wives (Ed - and your point is ?) but its success and its number of repeat offenders intrigue me.

Ha, the video makes it look like “the show must go on”, despite those poor sods being upside down in la foret !

Of course, these are all Black number cars, meaning they’re racing flat out against the clock.

I would only be doing it as a Red number, which is régularité.

Puzzled.

Why would a newbie, with just one post to his name, go and copy and paste and post the exact same reply that Malc posted some nine years ago ?
