Hi David
Page 44 of the E type club mag this month has short article quoting price as 650.00 pounds plus VAT for complete system including fitting kit for 3.8 and 4.2 cars. All parts can be purchased separately. I think it's not yet available for 2+2 but don't quote me on that.

It does not seem to be available with straight through silencers. Is this an aftermarket thing and not a factory option?

The 3.8 used #C17123 and the 4.2's used #C23869 silencers. I have no idea what the difference was but both were baffled. The mufflers (aka resonators) were straight through however and Jaguar used them to 'tune' the sound the car made, hence the long and short versions for each engine capacity.
My guess would be the 4.2 silencers were quieter as Jaguar strove for more civility especially for the US market.

Barratt's list the same part # for 3.8 and 4.2 "twin silencer assembly" and different for the tail pipes (long vs. short mufflers/resonators).
I thought the twin silencers were either baffled or straight through and the tail pipes always straight through?

If that is the case we need the part numbers to prove it or at least some documented evidence.
