#1 Removable steering wheel
Hi All...been having a look at the options recently......could only find 3 available as for E type .CMC have an option but you have to have a replacement upper steering shaft that has been machined....SuperSpoke looks very good but you need to have the steering wheel re drilled to fit there new boss.......SNG also have one not sure how it works but on there site it looks like a standard type boss and a shaft.
There are hundereds of afrer market quick release out there and some very nice well made units.....just need to find some options that can bolt on to the upper splined shaft.....what have you found......or machined to fit.....

The CMC version comes with a new replacement steering shaft which has a keyed spline to locate the wheel in the correct position. Fitting is simple and if you are careful you can simply undo the lower u/j draw out the stock shaft and insert the new shaft. Tighten the u/j and fit the steering wheel (with the CMC boss attached). No drilling and you can return to stock just as easily.

You need to ship your own steering wheel to Superspoke to have it adapted by them or you have to buy a complete unit (steering wheel + quick release system). Rather expensive overall.
The CMC system looks cheaper but there are not many details of their system on their website.
David, do they provide only the quick release system (including a new boss/shaft as you say) so that one can easily adapt his own steering wheel?

Angus posted photos in that thread but they seem to have been deleted. Maybe he still has them and can repost for you. CMC provide the boss and shaft - you bolt on your own steering wheel.

With the superspoke even when you ship your wheel to them it has to be re drilled this is because the unit they use comes in two parts and the part that fits to the wheel has been bought in and not specifically engineered for an E....( I called and asked them).....the reason i posted is to see what else others may have adapted....I cant really justify. ?500 for the CMC version although well made....when the average price for a quick release unit is about ?80...(not talking about the Chinese units ).its just finding something that will fit..Lots out there used by the race boys......Im not thinking of it as an anti theft device, as your more likely to have the removable wheel pinched.......more for ease of getting in/out and working on the car

Got an answer to my enquiry today from Paul Norton of CMC.
Price is indeed £412.5 + VAT which is 495 inc.
According to him, there is a couple of weeks lead time as they currently don?t have any in stock but he can put one on back order upon request.
I have to make my mind...

#11 Removable Steering Wheel
I've been to see Steve at Superspoke today to have his removable boss fitted.
I have a Series 3 with a Motalita wooden wheel. He did have to drill my wheel to fit his boss.
He is still developing his boss and will soon have a slightly different boss to accept the Jaguar steering wheel, which will then be a straight fit.
I believe he is working on a solution to be able to connect to a standard Series 3 wheel where the horn push is attached by 3 screws from the rear
He has recently introduced a boss for Morgans and is including other cars
Very pleased with the look and operation on my car

The S3 horn push is on the end of the indicator stalk like S2s.

On the Superspoke site his video shows him taking of the wheel on a V12....it has a center horn push

No its not. It's the centre boss, just as the Series 1.The S3 horn push is on the end of the indicator stalk

So it is. Apologies for wrong info. When I fitted a 14" Moto Lita S1 replica wheel to my OTS I thought it was normal to have to retrofit everything to install a working S1 horn push, in place of the non-functioning lump of black foam on the standard S3 wheel. Mine must have been modified previously with an S2 indicator/flasher/horn switch at some point? 1S2429 may be somebody's car here now I suppose?

Finally fitted a quick release......not one for the purists and does involve drilling your steering wheel and hub.....i was fitting a smaller wheel anyway and managed to get one at a good price with an original style hub..so still have the originals to go back on.......after a lot of searching on other forums came across a company caller NRG US based they makegood quailiy products that have been tried and tested.....i went for the NRG thin version that fits between the wheel and hub.....an adaptor spacer is also required once assembled you insert the wheel with its fitting into the quick release and twist the rear locking ring........to remove press the release button twist the lock ring and pull the wheel out.....it does add 36mm between the hub and wheel......total cost of parts in UK delivered £110 DO NOT fit the very similar looking units that are available on EBAY they have been known to not fit and of poor quality.....make sure its an NRG unit.....only available from one agent in the UK......If you prefer a plug in plug out style of quick release these are also available from NRG but will bring the wheel a bit more closer to the driver

I would like to install one of these NR-G kits on my MK2 Jaguar, can you privately e-mail me the model number you purchased and the supplier. My MK2 has a Motorlita steering wheel I do not know if an adaptor will be needed also?
