Heated Windshield
#1 Heated Windshield
Apologies that this post is not E-Type related but it is at least Jaguar related. I have a 2015 XF and need to replace the windshield due to a crack. The car originally came with a heated windshield which has small wires embedded in it. As I do not use the function and would much prefer a windshield without the annoying (to me) embedded wire mesh, I have asked my dealer to replace the windshield with one which does not have the heating elements. The dealer has expressed a concern that doing so could potentially produce some sort of electrical issue as all systems are interconnected. Calls to Jaguar North America have, so far, not been very helpful in trying to get an answer as to my question. Does anybody on the forum have experience with this issue. Thank you very much and again, apologies for asking a question unrelated to E-Types.

David, have you tried contacting Jaguar here in the UK? If there is a market for the XF where heated windscreens are not fitted then they might be able to help. Otherwise the issue you mention could be the overriding reason Jaguar won't support you.
It's strange how some people notice the wires and others don't. I certainly don't and am really pleased to have the heated windscreen.
Sorry not to be able to advise much else.
Geoff

Thank you for the prompt reply. I have tried to reach Jaguar in the UK but, so far, have not been successful. Do you have a contact number for anybody who would be able to help me?

You could try some of the numbers shown here:
http://www.jaguar.co.uk/contact-us/index.html
Though not sure if the numbers starting 03 will work from the US.
If they don't please let me know and I'll search a bit more.

My first inclination would be to unplug the one that is currently installed, if that is at all humanly possible, and see if the car goes into limp home mode. Failing that, if it has a dedicated fuse, pull it and see what happens.
My second inclination would be to ask if there is some sort of terminating resistor part for available for cars that don't have a heated windscreen.
I suspect the dealership may not have a procedure to change the software such that it doesn't spit an error code every time you start the car.

Do Jaguar do a plain screen as an option......if so then one can be fitted ....but there may only be heated screens available

I think your dealer will be correct. Like any electrical failure no matter how minor a fault code will be visible on the cars On Board Diagnostic system if the feature is disabled or not connected.
This may result in a warning light being illuminated on the instrument display.
I am not 100% sure, but I think it unlikely Jaguar supply any vehicle without heated front screens and therefore unlikely a screen is produced without the elements.
Personally I think it is a great feature for convenience and safety, I wish my current BMW was fitted with it.

Thank you for all of the replies. Jaguar does make a windshield which does not include the heated elements. I am told that it is routinely included on cars sold in the warmer states such as Florida and Arizona. I called a few dealers located in warmer states on the theory that they may have performed my desired switch but none had. I received mixed views as to whether the switch would trigger a fault. As I needed to replace the windshield and was not willing to risk a future electrical issue, I took the path of least resistance and ordered the heated windshield as a replacement. Although the dealer was willing to install whichever windshield I requested, if they installed the non-heated window they wanted me to sign a waiver indemnify them against any losses. I am going to try to contact Jaguar in the UK in the hope of getting a definitive answer just in case I ever need to replace the winshielld again.
