#1 What's it worth ?

Post by spanish 2+2 » Sun Sep 04, 2016 10:54 am

Can anybody give me the value of a good condition series 2 2+2. Not thinking of selling, but a chap has made a mouth watering bid to me. Don't think I would ever sell it, but the offer he made surprised me. :bouncyyellow:

Please describe the colour "red" to a blind guy.

When you're done you found your car's value.

Seriously, we need A LOT more info on condition, owners, MOT, originality and so on...

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say... .

Somewhere between

£15, 000 and £95,000.

The higher figure is assuming you have a period photo of Britt Ekland sat on the bonnet.

As said above, it's difficult without more details and pics. I always think that auction results are a more accurate indication of current values rather than what dealers are asking for cars in their showrooms . I would just have a look through recent auction results for cars that are similar to yours.

Put the details into Haggerty's valuation tool. You'll get a suggested value of around £30k.

Sounds corny but a second hand car is worth what a buyer is willing to pay....and a seller is willing to accept. Other cars are merely a guide..

It sounds like a cliche, but it's only worth what ever someone is willing to pay you for it. If you think the offer is fair, then that's all that really matters. Beyond that, other people's estimates are just that...estimates and/or opinions. Any you know what they say about those? Everybody has one.

Here's an example of a UK car via a dealer that's just come up for £58,850, whether it sells for thar that remains to be seen ?

I think that when we try to work out what our cars are worth, we need to concentrate on "how much would it cost to replace it", which is the basis of insurance. My 1969 2+2 (in excellent but not concours condition, fully matching numbers, etc) had an agreed value of £35,000, but looking around it became obvious that I couldn't replace it for that. The agreed value is now £40,000, but considering what it's like, and what I may have to do to a replacement to get it the same, I think I'm probably underinsured again, and next renewal I'll increase it to £50,000. I probably wouldn't get £50k if i tried to sell it, but that's a different matter.

Big conundrum with agreed valuation is getting the right balance between replacement value (which is defined as enough to find a replacement in the next 12 months) and the cost of an increased insurance premium, which is due immediately.

How many of us given the choice would plump for an agreed value less salvage, and repair the car, rather than find a replacement vehicle?

Insurance valuations are based on replacing you car with an equivalent vehicle in case of loss and are based on recent market prices. They are a guide to a realistic sale price but unless you are very under insured you will do well to sell your car for the agreed insurance valuation I would imagine.

Sorry for the delay lads, thank's for your feedback, all taken on board, but although I was offered a good price for the car, I will not be selling it, because it's worth more to me than the money, if that makes sense? :swerve:
