More insanity. When (if) that hulk is restored, little or none of its original body will remain. Undoubtedly the frame rails are also toast. Heaven knows what condition the drive train is in, but judging from the condition of the body and its storage conditions, that too will need major replacement parts. I've heard of the princess, but other than being famous for being famous, what value does her previous ownership bring to this wreck?

Actually sold for £21,500 in Nov. Tub looked surprisingly complete. Someone has a relative bargain so far, depending how much of the original car remained (original engine gearbox etc).

The tub was all you got for your money, nothing else, no engine, no gearbox, no drivetrain.
What you see is what you get.

1962 3.8? If you take a look at the pictures of the body shell it has a later 4.2 panel for mounting for the Lockheed brake servo and no cooling fan motor mounting on the picture frame as per S2.

No wonder the poor woman committed suicide. Unless of course it was Hilde Ogden's, not Princess Nina's?

The bulkhead is unquestionably from a 4.2 since it does not have the circular cutouts which disappeared very early in 4.2 shell production , so just what have you got here ? ( particularly given the unscalloped area behind the seats ) . Auctioneers ( probably as a result of inexperience ) are taking a big chance on this sort of thing , and one of these days will land themselves deep in the kacky stuff as a result - the Bonhams experience with the Ferrari last year should have been warning enough to anyone

Celebrity Value - strange one this and unless it is largely original surely has minimal value.
In a similar vein I was offered a 1964 1071 Austin Cooper S - used to be Denis Hulme race car - after delving into the detail for what was being 'bigged up' as a prelude to a closed auction bid! The engine gearbox were not original, the car reshelled and one of the doors and the boot lid may have come from the original car. Effectively then it was the log book entry!

I think the shell was displayed at the classic show at the NEC a few weeks ago possibly on tne SNG stand.....i did see the shell at the auction when it sold...the whole thing was blown over in light grey primer...you didnt have to get too close to see all the very rough body filler inder the primer and very patchybits of metal welded on here and there....i do hope its gone to one of the well known restorers and would hate to think of it just being purchased as a registration.......especially with the recent thefts

We have it in our power to rectify this pack of lies, of course, but we don't. Why don't we just tabulate this example as an exercise and develop a list of errors that prove the lump of metal Is not what it purports to be? Someone like David can vet the list and strip out any errors of our own. I'll start with thesechristopher storey wrote:The bulkhead is unquestionably from a 4.2 since it does not have the circular cutouts which disappeared very early in 4.2 shell production , so just what have you got here ? 1) The bonnet landing seal track has the later tabs a few inches down from the top. These do not exist on early 62 cars.
2) The servo toe board is wrong as stated
3) Aren't there too many bulkhead vacuum/water pipe holes for an early car?

Definately a 4.2 bulkhead.PeterCrespin wrote:We have it in our power to rectify this pack of lies, of course, but we don't. 1. Extra hole cut out for alternator wiring loom on lhs.
2. Mounting bracket holes for mirror rod are for later car.
But....the tub looks to be correct with straight rear bulkhead and square reinforcing panels.

I cant imagine this 'repair' took place in the Jamaican scrap yard, so one assumes someone here in Blighty has been trying to tart the shell up for sale. I still maintain that £21,500 for some remains with a V5 and at least some recoverable panels on the tub is not a huge price for an early car. Correctly restored it will still be worth north of £150k, and probably a lot more given its regal provenance.

As far as I can see there's no V5, it just states...
"Crucially though, the original chassis number is still clearly legible on the front cross member of the picture frame so getting a V5C for the car should not pose a problem for the new owner, this process being greatly eased by the Heritage Certificate and the ‘all duties paid’ HMRC import documents which accompany the car."
It's hard enough to get a V5 with everything in place, so good luck to the new owner with that !

I think it should end up registered as a kit car using the DVLA points system !It's hard enough to get a V5 with everything in place, so good luck to the new owner with that !

From the comments made it sounds as if it may have had a smash and the front end redone at a later date. Any newspaper reports of the princess in an accident? Given the shoddy repairs in the other areas though it seems doubtful. Green paint on the interior of the drivers door. Original was white, yellow when found in Jamaica...

If it ever gets built up again it will still be a kit car since there's now a permanent record of what it started off as here:- http://www.xkedata.com/cars/detail/?car=850413Red Kite wrote:I think it should end up registered as a kit car using the DVLA points system !It's hard enough to get a V5 with everything in place, so good luck to the new owner with that !
It would be interesting to follow some of these ridiculous purchases of junk E-Types just to see what actually gets done with them.

doesn't the commentary from here pointing out the discrepancies also need to be added to xkedata? Or would that help someone to a) fix it properly b) disguise the problems.
I still can't believe what happened with that filler cap. Is it even the same shell?
