#1 Float

Post by baganz.sven@web.de » Mon May 08, 2017 9:15 am

Hello forum colleagues,

I am confused which side of the float in my Strombergs has to be upside.
One carb has the stepped side up, the next one has it down.

In the parts cataloge it looks to me that the stepped part has to be upside.

What is correct? :seeingstars:

Hi......in the S3 service manual page 17.20.07 there are diagrams....it should be clear when you get to point 31 and adjust the floats.....from the diagrams the step side has to face towards the top of the carb

Hello Steve,

thank you for the hint, that's what I thought.
I was just confused because I have 2 carbs which are correct ant which are not.
I think my previous owner has mixed it up.

:thankyouyellow:

From the pic it looks reversible? Is that a needle mark on the underside of the opposite paddle?

Hello Hugo,

You are right. There is a contact mark on the opposite side. It must have been assembled the other way around in the past.
I found that two carbs have newer float chamber gaskets than the others. And exactly these two habe the stepped part on the bottom.
My conclusion is that some "specialist" in the workshop my pre owner used has worked on these carbs and has mixed it up.

I' m overhauling the carbs completely with Burlen parts including needles and will build them all up exactly the same way.

Disassembling the carbs I'm really surprised that the engine was running when I bought the car.

2 are ready two to go.

THANKS for your help

Sven
