#1 Gearbox oil,leak ( moved from Series 3 forum)

Post by Ikebaddog » Fri Oct 20, 2017 7:24 am

I have noticed quite a bad oil leak from my '71 auto gearbox, would I be better going to an Auto gearbox specialist, or an E-type specialist?? Any recommendations in the southeast England area?

Is it worth asking E Type UK (see top right of the banner above)? They might be able to point you to someone.

I think an E Type specialist would only farm the work out to a gearbox specialist and add their markup.

I suppose it depends on whether you're removing the gearbox yourself or not.

They are renowned for leaking from the sump gasket. Its a simple job to cure. Might be worth getting it in the air to check.

You know what, I'm actually going to have a look myself, how hard can it be?

If you've got a decent socket set, plenty of patience and don't mind the odd drop of ATF in your face, then it's easy enough. At least, until you start delving into the depths of the gearbox.

Good luck.

I'm looking at getting a means of getting it in the air so I can have a proper look around
