Post by E600 » Sun Nov 12, 2017 4:22 pm

I have seen reference to gusseted front frames used in regard to the Lightweight E Types. Has anyone got any details or pictures of this strengthening?

TIA

Hi Pat,
All the gussetting etc you hear and see is all Johney come lately stuff, I.e. not on factory built competition cars and somebody else's bright idea.
As far as I know, apart from a period trying an alloy picture frame on 4WPD, all the lightweights had standard spec frames from a strength perspective.
Having said that I'm aware that some now use the fabs frames as baseline as they are much better quality and therefore stiffer even without extra strengthening.
All that torsion has got to go somewhere and if using an alloy monocoque I might have a bit more of a think about it.
Regards,
Michael
