#1 E type distributor ?

Post by lyons » Sat Dec 23, 2017 12:37 pm

Within the engine box of bits there is a Lucas distributor in good condition which would do for a now.

It is marked 41060 4 and underneath 567.

Can I assume this is the correct 22D6/c25285 item which was used on nearly all E types from late 3.8 to S2

Are there any other identifying numbers to look for.

Thanks

41060 sounds correct to me for an S1 4.2 in UK spec . Some early 3.8s used an older style DMBZ6A, number 40617A, and by the time of the S2 smoggery had started to affect things so that the distributor fitted depended upon the exact specification of the engine which varied from market to market . There is also a number on the vac capsule, often very difficult to read unless you thoroughly wire brush it , which should be - I think - 54410415 for a 3.8 and 54415894 for a 4.2 S1

PS I should have added that I think your 4 after 41060 is in fact A, and the 5 67 is week 5 of 1967

Thank you Christopher, just what I needed to know.

Can you tell me would this run a late 3.8 engine for first start, up assuming the advance curve is OK.

As Julian says, should be no problems in using it - it is probably in fact correct for your car in any case . Once started , check the advance curve with a timing light
