Hi all,
I have an imported series 1.5 fitted with Strombergs and using a series2 type cooling system.
I can also have a set of triple SUs on a 3.8 manifold. It can fit these and sort the throttle connections and the issue of extra core plugs needed at the head joint but the 3.8 manifold has 2 large water inlets whereas the radiator only has the 1 connection.
Has anyone done this before and what are the secrets?
If all else fails I can sell my cleaned and blasted 3.8 manifolds and buy a 4.2 but would rathe not at this stage
Assistance appreciated
Tim

Hi Tim,
There should only be 1 large outlet which is the thermo housing. The other outlet on the water rail is small and that's part of the bypass circuit which connects via a right angle hose to the top of the water pump. On the series 1.5/2, the factory returned to the superior 3.8 type bypass circuit (along with an improved thermo housing) as IMO, the series 1 4.2 was not a very good design.
There is an excellent thread somewhere on this forum re: modified thermo housings to suit a proper sleeve type thermostats.
Regards,
Doug
