#1 Door hinge repinning on 2+2

Post by JD-JAG66 » Sat Feb 03, 2018 5:38 pm

I have just installed the doors on my 1966 2+2.
Unfortunately there is quite a drop (1 inch - 2.5 cm) when opening the doors.
When searching the site, I found some posts mentioning "repinning the hinges".

My car, being a 2+2 has hinges BD27681 - BD27680.

Question :
1) can these hinges' pins be replaced?
2) can the pins be greased?

Apparently there is a "repinning article" somewhere on the site, but I couldn't find it. Somebody can provide a link?

Cheers
Jan

Hi Jan

It was the first thing I did on mine. My door alignment needed improvement and this is the first place to start. Absolutely worth doing. (I actually cheated a little by getting a local machine shop to ream and re weld the hinges but the rest is relatively straightforward). There’s a lot of adjustment on the hinges. I still have to move the door frame forwards on the drivers door to allow the door itself to come rearwards.

Best of luck!

Guess I will have to.

At least taking the doors off again might help with solving why I am not being able to close them.
Upon closing them, the latch will only catch "once". I cannot get it to click a 2nd time. Have been moving the door striker catch for hours...
Unfortunately, even removing the door striker catch will not allow me to close the door, even when pushing hard at best I get a +/- 1 cm gap (door not being flush with the body) at the B pillar.

The door gaps, window frame included, are good. I guess the new rubbers are to blame...
So tomorrow (before and after the Italy facing England in the 6 nations) I will try to find out where it is that the rubbers "interfere", before I take the doors off and fix the hinges.

Try pulling the seals out. Mine were hard and stopping the doors closing easily. New seals also make a big difference. All part of the fun!

All the rubber seals were replaced with brand new ones. So as flexible as one could hope for.
Seriously not looking forward to having to pull them back out.
Especially not the door sill rubber which stayed on only at the 3rd attempt. Had to use windscreen sealant to make them stick...
Anyway, lot's of fun ahead...
