#1 Brake Warning Light

Post by ALAN COCHRANE » Mon Jun 04, 2018 2:53 pm

Hi Everyone

Since my engine and gearbox adventure last winter I've had problems with the brake warning light failing to extinguish. This is due to the transmission tunnel sitting slightly higher over the new gearbox cover and consequently stopping the handbrake lever resting in as low a position.
Even before this the handbrake lever had to rest on top of the tunnel before the light would go out. One ratchet position up and it came on. I can still lower the lever past the last ratchet position but not as far as before. At this slightly higher position the handbrake is still disengaged.
I've eliminated the brake fluid reservoirs as the culprit so there's no safety issue involved.
So before I remove the tunnel can anyone tell me if the switch on the mechanism can be adjusted?

Cheers

Alan

Hi Alan, the microswitch is at the bottom of the handbrake handle. I seem to recall that it is easy to adjust but you do need to remove the tunnel cover. Sorry

Hi Geoff

Thanks for the confirmation, no need to apologise. I just wanted to make sure before I took out the tunnel screws which are bloody awkward to put back in. Thank God there are only three of them!

Cheers

Alan,

adjustment should work fine, once you remove the tunnel cover. Be prepared to use WD40 or the like to maybe free up the mechanism.

WD40? I'd suggest use Plusgas or ACF50

+1 for Plusgas. I've found it to be much better than WD40 for freeing up rusted stuff.
