#1 Dashboard Gauge rubber seals

Post by gmunro » Sun Jun 17, 2018 12:32 pm

Hi gents and ladies,

Regarding my Series 1, 4.2 E-Type, DHC, somewhere I have seen advertised for sale, a set of new seals for both the inside and outside of the dashboard gauges (including speedo and rev counter) but despite searching like mad, I cannot find the ad again.

Can anybody point me in the right direction to get these seals so that I can continue the rebuild of my dash consoles?

Many thanks,

George

The ones that go between the outer ring and the glass are just there to stop the glass rattling around. I found some soft rubber tubing of a suitable diameter (something like 3mm iirc) in a garden center. Come to think of it, it might have been a petcare place (aquarium tubing).

Hi,

Many thanks for your response - an interesting solution! Trouble is, I also need the inner seals.

I have found a set advertised by XK Unlimited in the States but so far, nothing similar in the UK.

I used this chap on eBay for replacement gauge seals, there are two types of thickness seals for the 4 X 2” and 1 X 2 1/2” gauges, I used .069 gauge o rings for these and are the same as the originals.

Try Nossinger, in Mamaroneck , NY, USA,...he is a Smiths dealer and repair shop.....one of the best. He has the rubber rings you are looking for.

George, I used the Danbury Hydraulics kit linked in post no5 above which I suspect is the one you're trying to recall.

It's fine but I had to buy separately 3mm neoprene rubber sealing to go inside my speedo and tachometer. Very cheap and available from lots of eBay sellers.

I use O-ring cored you can buy it in lots of dia. then bond it at the ends with a type of super glue.
I buy mine from Simply Bearings & they do free delivery on any orders.

Thinking again I used Danbury Hydraulics. They have an eBay site. Purchased a complete set of both inner and outer seals.

Hi guys,

Many thanks for all the responses. I managed to get a full set of 13 seals from Danbury Hydraulics on ebay for £11.25 delivered. Seals were for inside and outside all six gauges plus an extra for a different dash layout - for a clock I think. Very pleased with the product and the speedy service. Highly recommended for anyone needing these new seals.
