#1 Rear screen chromes that fit?

Post by Jeremy » Mon Jun 25, 2018 6:17 pm

The windscreen man fitted the rear screen and rubbers today but gave up on the chromes as they are warped after polishing/replating. I did some careful bending (difficult and I don't like the sound of cracking chrome) and got them in myself - they look OK from a distance but the inner edges just won't tuck into their groove. The outer edges go all the way in but I can get a fingernail or screwdriver underneath at many points:

I'm wondering whether to buy a new set. Any recommendations of a supplier for chromes that fit properly?

Good luck with that one Jeremy. We only plate them if they are really bad. You could use, as a temporary measure the plasti chrome filler strip used on minis while you try and source a pair that fit. Looks a lot better than the black filler with no chrome.

I bought a set from SNG and they fit almost perfectly.

Cheers.

Maybe I will try M&CW as they use everything they sell in their own restorations and they have been honest about any quality/fit issues with their stuff. Perhaps they get them from SNGB anyway? Think I will also call Robey as they are now making their own front screen chromes in response to the poor fit of what's out there. Maybe they are doing rears too.
