Hi guys,
I have just rebuilt my wiper motor. It’s all back together but I packed the gears with standar bearing grease. I’m now thinking that perhaps I should have used a grease designed for plastic gears.
Any suggestions or recommendations please?

I just use normal grease.

It's not like you're going to actually USE the wipers.

For plastic gears I would use silicon grease.

I used bearing grease when restoring my DL3A wiper motor, are you converting LH to RH ?

If its a DL3A motor the the conversion to RHD is easy. Just rotate the paxolin disk with the park control by 180 degrees. And check adjustment. Takes minutes only.

I would be wary of using silicon grease in this application as it tends to be quite "heavy". You need a light grease and not too much of it for this application as the motor is not exactly powerful. On a cold wet day you need all the power to move the wipers, not sapped by heavy grease in the gearbox.

When you say ‘rebuilt’ what did it include? Having been caught out in torrential rain on a trip across France a couple of years ago i was pleased that the wipers did manage to stay working for over an hour of continuous use! The rebuild did included the windings armature bearings etc. Even with all that the performance of the wipers clearing the screen is another issue/experience.

Its a job you should only want to do once.

Best regards

Phil I was lucky enough to find a NOS wiper motor. Although it had never been used I I rebuilt it as the grease had set hard and I did an overhaul inspection and test. As good as new😊
