#1 Prop shaft UJs

Post by Robbiee » Fri Aug 31, 2018 8:49 pm

Dear friends
I’m fitting newprop shaft UJs to my S1 3.8 850456

They go in fine BUT there’s a lot of lateral play even when circlips are in place(see photos)

So I checked ....

Ordered from SNGB over phone because of multiple options, told them the car chassis number etc

They are part number 46 which appear to be for an earlier prop shaft...damn

Mine should be the next type but are listed as no longer available when searching on the website in the S1 Etype section however if I enter 8405 (the correct number according to the jag spare parts catalogue)in the search box I get a hit and they ARE available!!

I guess I remove them and phone up to get a swap?

Is 8405 correct???

HELP

Thanks in anticipation

Robbie

Interestingly 8405 is listed as backorder only and Etype is not on the list of cars suggested!

Would 9409 ( the 3rd type listed) be OK for my car??

Find your local GKN driveline shop and take your old U/Js in. They may even have them in stock.

I normally just take the shaft in and have them do it. Usually 1-3 day turnaround, and it comes back with new U/Js, balanced and painted.
