Oil pressure

Etype series 1 4.2 2+2 1967
Rebuilt car from base up
Engine had reasonable oil pressure when stripped
Engine back in car, turns over but no oil pressure
Fitted new oil pump when stripped
New spin on oil filter fitted
Have fitted M&C oil pressure gauge kit so not electrical fault

Any suggestions or checks I can do before I need to go back into engine

A few suggestions :

1. Are you sure that you have installed the correct gasket between the spin on casting and the engine block. There are several gaskets available , some of which are incorrect in that they occlude one of the oil passages

2. Try priming the entire oil system by plugging into the oil gallery which runs along the right side of the block at filter level . There are 2 or 3 blanking plugs which normally fit here, and removing one will give you access. I use a garden sprayer filled with 2 or 3 pints of oil at no more than 5 or 6 lbs/sq.in ( 0.4 bar) and you can check that oil is flowing by having a look through the oil filler when you should be able to see oil oozing out of the camshaft bearing housing - this usually takes about 2 minutes from a "dry start" of pressurising the gallery

I would also ask, how long are you spinning the engine over for before deciding there is no pressure ? From a dry start, it can take up to perhaps 1 minute to show any pressure at starter motor speed, particularly if the oil pump has not been primed with e.g. vaseline on assembly

A first mechanical check you can do is to see that the distributor shaft is rotating

Turn engine over on starter for longer and BOOM oil pressure, thanks Chris
Now just the dripping new spin on filter canister to seal

Have the oil prsssure now but can’t get the oil canister to seal on the adapter
Have tried blurring the seal and spinning on filter and the relaseing filter, no blue on the adapter face
Has anyone else experienced this?
Will need to contact supplier

It sounds as though the filter canister is not deep enough . Do you know the maker and number of the filter for which the head is designed ?
