Tripple SU inlet.
#1 Tripple SU inlet.
Good evening all.
I have been told that the triple su inlet for a E-Type is different to other jag models and others won't fit because the carbs sit higher and will his the bonnet. Is this true? If so what do i need to look for when searching the net and auto jumbles for a inlet manifold?

Hi Lee
Remember to specify Etype S1 3.8. And YES the Etype ones are angle downwards
I’m not sure you’ll find one easily
There are ads out there for used triple SUs and attached manifold. So, failing anything else, you could buy one and sell the carbs/ linkages off to offset the cost
You could try a Garage who’s converting a car to an alternative carb race setup who might do you a deal?
Regards
Robbie

As said, e type manifolds are angled. So ones from e.g a mk10 won't fit....although the seller may have you believe the will....price can be a guide as genuine e type ones fetch lots of £££. Burlen fuel systems will sell you a reproduction one I believe...and the carbs too for lots of beer tokens. 3.8 manifolds are very different from 4.2 manifolds too...

Cheers for the info guys.
I think i have found a complete 3.8 inlet for sale but i dont know what im looking for.
Will a 3.8 tripple inle fit a 4.2 head and what do i need to look for so i know its a E-Type inlet?
Do they still angle down like the one piece inlet?

As Julian has said the 3.8 manifold is very different from the 4.2. Yes is fits the studs on the head but you need to block off 2 water passages and then configure the hose arrangement. Throttle linkages are different as well.
It’s been done before and I considered it but managed to find a 4.2 manifold and sold the 3.8 units.
3.8 e type manifolds complete with air and water rails are sought after and won’t be cheap. You need to be absolutely certain it’s genuine e type or you won’t be able to close the bonnet as others have found.
Yes they angle down.
Check carefully the part numbers before you part with cash !

Ok so how do the manifolds tilt down?
For example are the carb and head mounting faces machined at a angle or is the casting itself bent/curved ect?

Hi Lee....look at some photos...a quick google search should show you lots of photos....here from SNGB site....front and rear faces are square but the carb face is lower than the head face..... https://www.sngbarratt.com/uk/#!/Englis ... 9cedfc6886

Hi
If you look at the jaguar service manual(the big fat book) it has across section diagram of the engine/head and manifolds which show the angle of dangle perfectly
