#1 Door key

Post by Piscator » Fri Mar 22, 2019 8:31 pm

I would like to ascertain my door key number in order to source a key. I thought I might get the number from the glove box lock---however the key only fitted the glove box and the internal boot lock (OTS).

I know I could probably get the key number by removing or dismantling the door lock, but is there an easier way?

Thanks for any advice.

The door key and ignition should be the same. Do you have an ignition key. I believe if these differ then one of the locks has been changed.
What you can’t tell at the moment without dismantling both door locks is if one key will fit both, as it should

Your door key number is stamped on the actuator arm at the back of the lock. You'll have to remove the door card and disconnect the link. It's just inboard of the little stud that the link clips to.

Thank you, Andrew and Tim, for your replies.

I forgot to mention it is a S2, which means it has a steering lock/ignition switch where the ignition key is different from the door key.

With a little judicious fiddling, the glove box/boot key will lock and unlock the passenger door but not the driver's door.

I will try your tip, Andrew---many thanks.
