#1 Half shaft UJ`s

Post by Nigel GT » Thu Nov 29, 2018 8:03 pm

Hi Guys,
I am changing the half shaft UJ`s, I have one fitted at the moment, in one axis I have easy movement by hand and in the other axis it has stiff movement by hand, what should I be aiming for?

Thanks
Nigel

Nigel,

You want easy in all directions. You have a cap too far in and need to move out, perhaps 0.001" is enough. Leave the clips in and smack the axle towards and inline with the stiff plane of the joint. Hold by hand and use the knock off hammer on the other side of the joint. May need to rotate 180 degrees and do again to be sure both caps are not pressing on the ends of the center cross of the u-joint.
