Hi Pierre ...with the rebuild kit from Burlan you also get a small pamphlet with rebuild info....also look on Youtube some good videos.....and the Jaguar service manual with full details on the carbs and setting them up..I dont know of a How To on this forum.......get yourself 3 cardboard shoe boxes to keep the carb parts in...and make sure you dont mix parts from different carbs......also make use of this forum to ask questions during the rebuild...many have done this to their own carbs already... Shoe boxes are okay but I find these storage bins much more robust and appropriate for these kinds of job.

I'm sure they're available from various outlets.

They are pretty simple devices to work on. I would suggest that you research exactly how they work first so that you understand the logic in their construction. Only other tip I have is to rebuild them one at a time so that you have a reference for reassembling them. Be very carefull that you do not drop the bells. If you distort them they are done. When polishing mine I CAREFULLY screwed them down onto a sheet of plywood to prevent the buffer from flinging them across the shop. it happens!

I'd agree with Geoff....do one at a time. You will probably find that getting them off the engine (especially the one nearest the bulkhead) is much the most annoying part of the job. Each is held on to four studs. The nuts on the top two are a doddle to undo. The two underneath the carbs are not. Most standard spanners are too long. I bought a single spanner and used an angle grinder to chop it in half to make two stubby spanners! Obvious if the engine is out it will not be an issue. They are fairly intuitive to reassemble. When you do, spend plenty of time making sure the three needles are correctly located in their pistons. They have a little mark at the foot of the needle and all three must stick out PRECISELY the same distance from the flat surface of the piston. A PO had messed with mine and one was 2mm further in that it should have been.....caused HUGE tuning and running issues till I finally found the error.

When I rebuilt my carbs, the most difficult part was drilling the spindles for the levers/stop arms on the ends.

Why these are not drilled for you by Burlen, I cannot understand and the instruction on how to do this was most unsatisfactory.

I'm sure any better advice would be welcome.

Hello,

Thanks all for your comments and usefull informations.

Few questions :
1°) I see some tutorial in order to replace the P.T.F.E bush, but burlen kit doesn't contain such bushes but metal ones. Are these P.T.F.E available on the market ? are the metal bush more better ?

2°) did some of you replace by your own these metal bushes ? if yes do you have any advices how to do it perfectly in line ?

3°) Burlen's instruction is to not go through the venturi, but it makes the machining operation very complex while to go through allow to have a good alignement, what is your advice ?

By the way here are some video, hope it may help for the next ones

I always get the metal bushes reamed professionally. They have a jig that does it perfectly parallel and exactly the right size.

ok, basically either you have the right tool which is quite expensive or you don't and it is very difficult to have something aligned.

I'm curious to know if some members tried to do it, and if yes how.

Paul : I am afraid that replacing the spindle bushes is not an amateur job, and I would not even attempt it. What is not obvious is that the bronze bushes are cast into the carburetters' bodies when they are originally made, and the only way properly to replace them is with a ( very specialized ) stepped reamer tool . I feel fairly sure that if you were to send your bodies off to David Lonsdale he would be able to do this for you whilst leaving you to do the remainder of the rebuild. You could also enquire of Burlen whether they would do this for you
