#1 Glue for headliner

Post by Quattrofrank » Thu Feb 21, 2019 10:17 am

I was wondering if anyone have a tips for a good glue for the headliner?
The person doing my interior have not done any headliner where the foam is glued directly to the roof and is concerned about the heat when the car is baking in the sun. As my car i dark the heat will be substantial when its hot and sunny.

I used NEOPREN glue in a 5 gallon tank…. for +- all the trimming job , work with a temp of 15C° minimum . Be careful to test before application, you can't have a second chance …. :wow:
Image
Put the glue on the middle for beginning,to be certain to be in the right direction and after you can glue on the side until +- 2 inches near the edges , then you can "slide " the rest of the Headliner with a flat and thin blade in the peripheric recess….

i have glued the edges with a seringue . Take your time ….. :salute:

BAS use it and recomended it to me. My car has been stood out on 35deg sun and no sign of any issues so far.

Cheers.

Thank you both, two different products but both work.
I could not find any information on what temperature range they are design to hold for.
The person doing my headliner have a product she use that is guaranteed up to 80degress celcius so would be nice to find out what the products you have been using is rated for.
Maybe its sufficient with 80 degress?

Yves
Did you do the headliner before the smaller parts on the side? I have read that theese should be done first and then the headliner.
Also, the black metal parts, how did you get the fabric underneath if they are screwed to the body first? I thought you should use them to clamp down the fabric?

Frank , i did the HL before the peripheric "curtain" . I am not certain to understand about what you name the "fabric" , i suppose it is the "curtain ..... if so i fixed it after fixing the black retainer left and right. i have had no problem in the fixing sequence...

PS: i have glued before on the roof some "dynamat" as a sound deadening

yes, fabric = curtain
But how did you get this under the black steel parts?
Or are they used to holde the plastic edging around the door opening?

The two metal parts have some teeth in which you tretch the fabrics to hold them tightened . If i remember i have then glued the fabric around the rear light .

I know that replacing the headliner is the right repair when the fabric starts sagging.

I would like to know however, when damage is limited to e.g. a corner, if a temporary fix could be to only "inject" appropriate glue between the fabric and the headliner.

Could using maybe a siringe or spraying adhesive through a small hole, and then gently pressing not to damage the headliner work?

If so, what kind of glue may fit?

Ishould try Neoprene glue with a seringue ,or a spray if the nozzle is small enough…! waiting 15 min before pressing the two faces together
