Hi all
My car is at a garage and has failed an mot on the sidelights not working. They guys at the garage are currently looking at the wiring but are struggling to identify where the issue is as not e-type mechanics and I don't have access to the car.
Is there any typical places that they should be looking, could there be something simple they are missing and what's the best way to fix a wiring/electrical fault like this? The car is a 1967 series 1 e-type and they apparently have the wiring loom diagram so are working from that.
Any advice would be much appreciated
Thanks
Trevor

what year car? if its a series 2 they were just reflectors until a mid point of production, not sure exactly when offhand. late 69, 0r around 1R11052 from my notes
if all four are not working then I am guessing you have a car with only reflectors.
if they remove a lens they will see there is no bulb.
oops now I see you added the year,
sorry, cant help on a series 1

Hi Bob
I think you're confusing US side marker lights with British side lights, which are what I think you would call front and tail lights.
Two nations divided by a common language!
As for fault finding, it's hard to help without knowing more. Is it all of the sidelights, or just the front or rear pair?
Regards

Hi all
Sorry for lack of detail. Car is a series 1 FHC and the fault is that both front sidelights are not working when switched on.
I've told them to get a multimeter and check the switch, wires and light units for continuity as that is the way I have usually traced electrical gremlins but wondered if there were common issues that could cause both lights to be out. I've also suggested checking the bulbs are OK as it could be something as simple as that I guess. Difficult to diagnose when I don't have the car so thought I'd ask for some ideas on things they can check, fuses, bulbs, etc
Thanks
Trev

Hi Trevor.....get the car back and fix it for yourself.....your car is a age where it dosnt need an mot......its basic electrics dont let amatures play with your E type.......if you want an mot then take it back for a retest once you have fixed the problem....Steve

If it is the front lights not working , but the back lights working, then the prime candidate is a fault in the bonnet multiplug. The terminals often get corroded, and/or broken wires can appear/ and/or poor earthing all being possibilities

Inside the left hand front wheelarch. In front of the wheel, mounted on the vertical panel near the bonnet pivot.
