#1 Rack mount fail safe bolts

Post by chrisfell » Thu Feb 28, 2019 10:10 pm

My car was last rebuilt by its PO, a now defunct self proclaimed world’s largest seller of E-Types. Since rebuilding my steering rack with a new bush, I’ve made a few discoveries. One is that the rack mounting plates were bent. Another is that the failsafe bolts were not to original spec, and had lengths of copper tube as the distance pieces.

So I have a question. How long should these distance pieces be? Mine are 7/8”. I note from the SNGB parts book that the failsafe bolts are different, depending on which end of the rack they are mounted. Can anyone tell me what the differences are? Mine are the same, both sides. (PO again.)
