Accelerator pedal - play in shaft
#1 Accelerator pedal - play in shaft
Having refitted the accelerator pedal / pedal box I have considerable lateral play across the mounting shaft. The photo below shows the size of the gap between the outer edge of the pedal box and the linkage lever.
It's not a safety issue as the shaft cannot come undone but the play is more than I would expect. Obviously it needs some movement or one could tighten the shaft to the point where the pedal would not function but just seems quite excessive to me.
Maybe just over-analysing as there was not a spacer before and the accelerator linkage presumably just self-centres it but would value any thoughts.
If someone could check whether they have similar play that would be much appreciated.
thanks
Ash

Ash, subjectively about 0.5 mm there on mine, could you use a shim washer? Does your pedal seem particularly loose? Mine has quite a bit of lateral slop but never noticed that before. Now you'll have me questioning it!!

Hi Ash
Here’s mine...has a spacer washer where you have a gap
No play in the shaft
The accel pedal will always have a bit of lateral wobble due to the length offvtge lever
See photo
Hope it helps

No problem
I think you need a self-locking(nylock) nut on the bolt as opposed to a nut and locking washer(bit nerdy of me sorry)

Yep as above, missing the spacer, but the nyloc nut is essential as this does not do up “tight” like a normal bolt and nut. Just nip it up till all the free play is removed but the pedal moves freely through the arc. Cheers. Al

Thanks all - have found the missing spacer and it’s on order from SNGB.
As discussed, will also need to change that nut too now.
Appreciate the advice.
Cheers

Hi Ash
Just dig out my accelerator pedal/box from my latest project car
As you can see the spacer washer is identical to my other car...this is the repeated one that I took off when dismantling
