Firing Order
#1 Firing Order
Hi all,
On the both engines I rebuilted I have a strange thing that I can't explain.
Starting with the 6 at TDC
Normaly the distributor order is :
But my engines doesn't fire.
They work fine with :
I think remember that the drive shaft was in the good position, but...
Which part of the manuel I didn't understand ?
WHere is my fault ?
Is there a possibility to correct without dismounting all the engine ?
Mich

Do you remember that on the Jaguar, the cylinders are numbered 1 to 6 from the rear of the engine.
No. 1 cylinder is close to bulkhead, N0. 6 close to the radiator.

Jerry, Steve,
I remember very well this page of course. It's important.
45° angle, the small half is on the left the largeur on the right. You check this without the head on the engine so it's really easy to see that the 6 and 1 are at their DTC.
I think my mistake came purhaps from the nuts hole on the bloc. I took it as a ref for the the top of the 45°.
It can't came from an other reason...

It hardly matters at all, only to keep the vac advance free to turn and not hit the block
Set number 6 cylinder at firing stroke TDC by the rote. Then fit the rotor and wherever it points fit #6 wire.
Fit next wires anticlockwise in order after 6 (2,4,1,5,3 -)

Yes Peter I can do this of course.
But I don't like the "nearly right".

I suspect that your distributor drive is incorrectly aligned.
This usually happens when on assembly you fail to turn back the drive cog 3 teeth to allow for rotation of the distributor drive shaft as the crank drive cog is tapped in.
See http://www.projectetype.com/index.php/t ... 6-eb2.html for an explanation; go down to the 3rd last picture.
As Peter says it really doesn't matter. As long as you correctly allign #6 at TDC you're good to go.
Andrew.

Yes, I understand Michel and agree, mais c'est la moitié d'un plan. That train has now left the station. The time to aim for "totally right" on things like this is when building up the block. It's completely your choice, but I can't believe you would dismantle the bottom half to 'correct' something you can easily work around.

Hi andrew
It's a pity I didn't read this before!
I know the solution now for an other time.
Hi Peter
You belive right
My E isn't on the road since 1 1/2 year. It's a too long time.
This detail is going to stay a detail ( but also a thorn in the side)
Thanks all
Mich
