#1 Welding 3.8 block?

Post by ysmalkie » Wed Apr 24, 2019 8:13 pm

I seem to have a problem with one of the water passages in the block:

Does anyone know how weldable is the iron on these blocks?

Or are there other modern methods that are better?

Common problem. My machinist grinds them out, brazes them and them cuts them back to shape.

I don't know much about the process I'm sorry. I just pay them to do it.

The blocks are cast. Cast iron can crack. It would be heated I'd imagine or the local heating caused by the brazing may cause a crack to form. A job for an expert who knows what they are doing or you stand a good chance of wrecking the block all together. Not something do do in your garage!

Give Stitchweld in Burton on Trent a call. They can repair just about any kind of damage on a large range of parts and materials.

Brian there is a magician with metal. He repaired my sump and he did appear on Car SOS where he repaired an engine block for Fuzz.

Regards
Stuart
