#1 Door lock in handle slot orientation? Up, Down, Both?

This might seem a daft question, but has anyone out there got key slots on both handles that are the same way up?

It is really upsetting my OCD need for symmetry each time I look at my newly fitted door handles. :banghead:
Every picture I can find has one up, one down. I've dismantled the handle and lock button but it doesn't look possible.

Geoff, I'll post your reply for you to save you a bit of time.......

" Why worry, you can't see them when you're DRIVING IT. "

While I'm on , another one that is really going to annoy me is the bonnet release handles. Does anyone know a supplier for Left Handed and Right Handed handles. If not, I might have to get some machined out of stainless.

Thanks,

Simon

Yes, Simon, why worry. And I can confirm one is up, one is down. IT IS NORMAL
And from all I've seen the bonnet lock handles both point the same direction, not both inboard or outboard.
But you can be different

It looks like you've not been taking your medicine again!! :swerve:

Thanks chaps. Despite it being “normal” and “correct” it’s still playing on my mind  As Geoff suggests, I’ll have to up the medication.

I was sooooo tempted to say that originally they would both have been the same way up just to send Simon into orbit.....

Malcolm, aren't 2+2 locks different?

Edited to add: I do wish you hadn't posted that Malcolm, it'll set him off again.

Just been out to the garage to check in case I'm losing my mind - but yep, both the same way. Both down.

I'm, sure it must be mine that's wrong, so don't fret! :wow:

Chris, I think this is where the difference with (some) 2+2s is, Simon's is an OTS and like the FHC the lock is in the handle push button. All helps to confuse

I’m happy that mine and Malcolm’s are the same.

And OCD correct.

Cheers Steve,

The handles came from Barratts built up complete with locks, one up one down. My original ones are one up, one down. I’m in the process of stripping the originals down completely and as you say, it might actually be possible to spin the lock internal ( your pic).
Why did Jaguar have one up, one down originally though? There must be a reason surely.

For the 2+2 replies with separate locks, I had hoped the “lock in handle” part of the title would have been a clue.

Thanks for the replies anyway. At least it seems for some 2+2 owners at least, all is well and they don’t have this dilemma.

After a bit of faffing about with an old original pair of handles, it is possible to have both slots in the same direction and the locks / push buttons functioning correctly.
However as certain members have been nasty to me (cough Angus) I'm not going to tell you how to do it.

The mystery still remains as to why they left the factory one up , one down? There has to be a reason.
To add to Steve's post the part numbers for the LH and RH lock barrels are as he says different. BD11999 and BD12000 respectively. However BD12000 on Barratts site is listed as no longer available.
Having dismantled both the original handles, push buttons and barrels, I can't see a difference for the lock barrels. Other parts are clearly handed.

I'm intrigued and reluctant to alter my locks on the car in case there is a genuine reason for Jaguar doing it this way. Someone must know why.

Sleepless in Cheshire,

Simon
