#1 Series 2 Door water deflectors.

Post by 288gto » Mon Jun 24, 2019 2:11 pm

Do the Series 2 swb doors have the water deflector metal panels in the two lower apertures of the door casing like the Series 1?
These are the ones behind the door card not the little drainage ones that are riveted underneath the door.
On a Series 2 the revised position of the door handle occupies the larger of the two apertures so I can’t quite understand how this would work.
Perhaps the plastic sheet attached with non setting mastic is sufficient?
I’ve scoured the forum, Chris Vine’s blog and Moss Jaguar‘s( Angus) vast gallery of S2 pics and can’t see anything.

Thoughts, comments, pictures welcome as always.

Are these the ones you are referring to on the S1?

Yes David those are the ones. I know the Series 1 has them but wondered if the Series 2 has just the rear one or both were deleted.
Because of the shape of the edge of the hole in the door I was worried that plastic on its own would allow water to collect on the lower edge of the hole in the valley created.
My other thought was to cut large epdm foam “blanking grommets” and mastic those in first?

Never seen them so assume they weren’t. Don’t forget to fit the plastic inside the door shell for best results.

Cheers Angus, I intend to fit the plastic sheet as mentioned above but am concerned about water collecting as in the diagram below. Perhaps I'm over thinking this and worrying about a problem that doesn't exist.

Hi Simon, fit the sheet on the other side.

Ah ha, on the inside of the door then? It was this from your excellent gallery of S2 pics that threw me....

GOTCHA! We currently use this method (ala S1) but will go to S2 when we can find a suitable material. Needs to be thick plastic with tacky/sticky backing.

Would the clear vinyl paint stone chip protection film be too permanent or is that still too thin?
3M do one that is 14mil or 0.35mm thick.

Originally it was quite thick - think heavy duty bin liner. There’s no reason why a thinner one wouldn’t work though.
