Post by JoyBee » Wed Mar 03, 2010 11:29 am

the front brakes of my XKE S3 v12 making an very annoying noise everytime i hit the brakes.

we had al sort of brake pads (greenstuff, stock, ferodo) but the brakes keep making that noise.

has anyone an idea how this problem can be solved? or has the same problem?

Can you be a bit more specific - e.g. squealing, grinding, groaning, squeaking? Also are you sure it is coming from the brakes? For ages my car produced a horrible creaking sound when coming to a stop and I changed the servo, o/h the calipers and tried different pads to no avail. In the end I traced it to a poly front suspension bush. The poly bushes can creak under load unless properly lubricated - one of their major failings IMO. Scared the willies out of us though as we thought the whole front of the car was cracking apart!

i am sure that the noise is coming from the brakes because it only makes the squealing sound when i use the brake pedal. when i release it the sound stops immediatly.

the braking itself is good, the only problem with it is the squealing sound.

I had the same problem following a complete restoration of my S3, the squealing was so bad at low speed it would stop traffic and pedestrians cover thier ears!
Easily remedied with anti squeal shims from SNG and a smear of coppaslip to the back of the pads and where the edge of the pads contact the caliper.

hello,

back in 2008, I had something done to my squealing brakes that worked
really well.

I complained to my Jag mechanic and he suggested something he did
on several types on E's with success (yes mostly automatic cars,
reason being that with an automatic you cannot use engine brake
and apply your brakes more often and also often keep a light
pression in traffic, potentially resulting in glazing) :

he drilled grooves on the discs both sides, to reduce glazing
effect (and have some cooling? air flow effect?). He also replaced
the pads with Ferodo racing pads (kindly as it was the third time
he tried to fix this issue and replaced pads already) and since
then...total silence .

it really worked and I don't hear these noisy brakes anymore.

all the best
