Hi Adam...to remove the prop you will have to drop the irs....however it is possible to replace the UJ on the prop without dropping the irs....not easy though.....wouldnt like to try it laying on my back under the car but if its up on a lift ist doable......Steve

Has anyone managed to do this job with the prop shaft in place?I first tried c frame screw tool just managed to bend the tool next I tried a double arm screw extractor moved the joint 1.5 mm with a long breaker and five white knuckles pressure would not budge any further. I think the only way is to remove prop from car,I saw the workshop manual method gently tap yokes should come apart easily like to see it done that way

I know your probably thinking this but.......
Drop the IRS and do both joints. If they are that stiff it’s going to be less hassle.

EDIT.

I wonder if an hydraulic puller similar to that used for removing pulleys etc could be bodged to do the job?

That has always bemused me. I wonder if they put it in as a joke. I always have to use my vice.

Mine were so badly seized I had to use an angle grinder to cut the UJ spiders into 2 parts and take the cups out the reverse way.

What a job. Cost me a visit to A&E to get grinder swarf removed from my eye, too.
