#1 62 S1 rear brake pads

Post by mtnjag » Thu Dec 05, 2019 2:49 am

Have to replace the rear pads and need some guidance on a good, moderately price pad available in the US. I have 4.2 S1 calipers with the thicker rotor on the rear.I believe pads are the same as the 3.8 calipers. Ordered XKs Unltd pads and one didn’t have the rivets properly set so I question the quality control and will be sending them back. Was told Ferodo but can’t find them in the correct application. SNG has TRW, I think ceramic but haven’t talked to them yet. And British parts Northwest has TRW ceramics- both around $70/set of 4 pads.

Opinions, suggestions?

I use these and I do like them. I was surprised that they did seem to improve braking albeit subjectively.

You may have to sand some of the green paint off the edges of the backing plates so you can slide them into place, and I do find that I get more brake squeaking with them than standard pads.

Well, I like the improved braking but not the noise. I assume you’re talking squeal? I guess I’ll see, they’re on the way.
Thanks.

Not noise when applied, but intermittent high pitched squeaking while driving.

Good one.

I’ll report back on who, what, and where I experience it.

Thought these were supposed to be quiet, oh well.

Had a problem with the thickness of these pads. Wouldn’t fit and pistons are back as far as I can get them. The pads are thicker by about the margin that prevents them from slipping in. Them seem to fit others so looks like my problem.

Anyway, I decided to switch my unused front pots to the rear as I have Wilwoods up front now, returned the EBC pads, and picked up some TRW ceramic pads. Having my fronts refreshed and will install once back. Reported back on that thread.

Thanks for feedback.
