Differential Fixing Threads
#1 Differential Fixing Threads
Can anyone tell me the threads that fix an early e-type diff into the car please? The upper top 4 bolts want to be M12 x 1.75. But this doesn't seem right. 1.75 is around 14tpi - but then there isn't a 1/2" x 14tpi thread.
The lower 4 bolts (2 on each side) are almost 7/16 UNC. This would seem to be a mistake and they're more likely to be 7/16 BSW - is this correct?
Thanks - I'm trying restore a special which has been badly assembled. Oliver

Definitely not metric. UNC from memory of when I swapped my diff over, but that was a couple of years back.

#3 Re: Differential Fixing Threads
If you mean the 8x shouldered bolts with locking wire holes, they should not be metric as Tom points out.
When I rebuilt mine, I got a new set from SNG, part no c.17024 - all the same thread.

Thanks both for the replies. It looks like the stub axle fixings are UNC - so I assume the whole diff casing is UNC. I don't know how someone has stuffed M12 into the top bolts. My challenge here is that every bolt is a different length to a standard e-type on this car, so bolt kits won't fit. Cheers. Oliver

I have a rear suspension on my bench at the moment (with type C axle)
the lower fulc bracket bolts are 7/16 UNC, the short ones have 1/2 , the longer ones 3/4 thread lenght (approx).
The 4top bolts are 1/2 UNC x 3/4.

#7 Re: Differential Fixing Threads
Thanks for the info, did not realize that before, would be a nice to have feature on the SNG website . Nevertheless it might be of help for Oliver, since I measured thread lenght only (without cone) as I understand that he rebuilds a special which might use the axle (diff) only, fastened with non Jaguar bolts.
