2+2 rear anti roll bar
#1 2+2 rear anti roll bar
What size rear anti roll bar should my series 2 2+2 have?
I bought new bushes for mine from SNG and the holes for the bar in the bushes are to big
I looked on the packets and their website and they show as being correct
I phoned them and they said that the 2+2 cars had a larger bar than the normal wheelbase cars and that my car for some reason has a normal wheel base cars anti roll bar fitted?
I have part number c32925 bushes
Is this another jaguar using up the parts they had before fitting the newer versions?
Or has someone fitted a wrong anti roll bar to my car?
Thx for any information
Joe

Hi Joe...just measured my rear on 69 S2 2+2...0.625in.......had a close look at the bush and can see that i have added rubber around the anti roll bar becaus the hole in the bush was too large....fitted it about 10 years ago and its still nice and tight...Steve

How odd!
When I took my bar off it had electrical tape wrapped round it
I dident think to much about it and stripped it off
It must have been used to take up the slack between the bar and the rubber Bush
Hmm.... to be honest this is not right one way or the other
There is something not right here

The part numbers for S2 2+2 rear ARB and bushes are different to those for OTS+FHC, so a different diameter is a likely reason.
So 2+2 bushes should be C25748 which SNGB superceeds to C32925. This is the part number for Series 3 2+2 and OTS both of which use an ARB which is 0.88" diameter (front - no ARB on the rear of a S3).

#5 Re: 2+2 rear anti roll bar
Thanks Bob
That's what SNG said
So my series 2 2+2 for some reason has the wrong rear anti roll bar fitted
It should be like the series 3 one
Which would account for the holes in the bushes being to large for the anti roll bar
How did my car get the smaller anti roll bar I wonder?
It all looks original
Also it seems that Steve's car also has a smaller anti roll bar and he had to fit extra rubbers to take up the slack
2 cars with the wrong anti roll bar?
I know Steve's car is around chassis number 450 and mine is 166 so it's likely not a case of jaguar fitting what ever they had
I may look to fit a series 3 bar in this case and remove mine
Then i can fit the correct anti roll bar rubbers
Or is the literature incorrect?
Were some cars fitted with the smaller anti roll bars?
Anyone know?

Bob
I just realised what you said
The series 3 had no rear anti roll bar
The part numbers are from the front
So clearly not parts for a rear anti roll bar
I am guessing I need anti roll bar rubbers for a short wheel base series 2
I will get some and see

SWB rear anti roll bars are larger diameter than those on the 2+2.
Thay can both be distinguished from the front bars as they have the bend in the centre to clear the propshaft.
It’s more likely you have the wrong bushes than the wrong bar, particularly if you’ve been supplied S3 front bushes. Front bars are usually thicker still than the rears

#9 Re: 2+2 rear anti roll bar
So I need a pair of anti roll bar rubbers from a jaguar mk2?
The ones I have are to big and I would rather not pack them out if I dont have to
Clearly the ones supplied by SNG are wrong

Hi Joe...yes your SNG supplied are wrong...but that dosent mean they dont have the correct ones...it could just be that the wrong part was put in the wrong bin......I would call them explain the diameter of your bar is correct for your car at .625 (5/8).........I would have thought someone could get one off the shelf and measure it........I know someone doing a full 2+2 rebuild.....will ask what they have.......Steve

#11 Re: 2+2 rear anti roll bar
Just a bit more info.....another forum member gave me the measurement for a rear S2 OTS bar..his measurement was 17.9mm but its painted nearest imperial would be 17.46mm being 11/16in compared to 5/8 on the 2+2....Steve

I was just going to say that. 2+2 bars are narrower.
I assume that the rubbers provided are generic ones sized for the standard cars.

Have a look on the SuperFlex website. In the drop down for list for the anti-roll bar bushes it gives you four sizes to choose from. It might help with identifying the right part.

#14 Re: 2+2 rear anti roll bar
I will call sng again
But I think I will just buy the superflex 5/8 ones for now and see how it goes
Thx for all your great comments and advice
My IRS is now back in and she is back on her wheels
Engine out next.....
At least this lock down has been a good chance to rebuild the car!
Needed it anyway...

#15 Re: 2+2 rear anti roll bar
I also had this problem when I rebuilt my 1966 2+2 IRS 18months ago. The rear anti roll bar rubber bush supplied by SNG was too large for the roll bar. I called them with measurements and they found a rubber bush that fitted saying it came form the earlier XK model. My IRS had never been out of the car, as far as I could tell, so assume the anti-roll bar was original.

I can also confirm a series 2, 2+2 rear roll bar is 5/8 diameter.

Thx for all your replies
I now have the correct ones from superflex
Bit pricey at £25.00 inc postage but at least the correct ones
And a bit stiffer by the look of them
Will send back the wrong ones to SNG
