#1 E-Type Chassis ID Plate S1 Auto NON Power steer - Do they exist?

Post by BlairWright » Sat Jun 24, 2023 12:35 am

Hi all, I am trying to get a replacement Chassis ID Plate for a E-Type 66 S1 2+2 Auto non power steer and I am struggling. Lots of replacement ones for manuals or Auto with Power steering system but not steering box.

The original mentions both Automatic Transmission No. and Steering Box. Does anyone know of a source?

Much appreciated,
Blair

I got my replacement chassis plate from Dan Mooney at Classic Jaguar in the USA. I got mine in late 2017 but the company still very much exists.

If I remember correctly his reproduction was the closest to the original item. Just send what details you want on it and he will stamp it up accordingly. He turned mine around in about a week although I was visiting my daughter in Chicago at the time and he sent it to my daughter's address.

danmooney@classicjaguar.com

Hope this helps.

Regards
Stuart

Hi Stuart, thanks for the help. I had a look but it looks like they only have the Ids that say Gear Box No, and not Automatic Transmission No, did yours say Automatic..? Thanks, Blair

Was going to order a chassis plate from Classic Jaguar but according to their website they don’t offer a stamping service :questionmarks:

My understanding is that if there is BW after the body number it indicates an auto and the number in the gearbox section is just the number of the gearbox whether it be auto or manual - what does your body number say.

No, but my car isn't a 2+2 so auto isn't appropriate. Sorry for the slightly bum steer.

Dan definitely stamped mine up. Maybe he's had a change of heart in the intervening 5 years.

Hi, thank you for all the help. Yes the unique wording is Steering Box and Automatic Transmission No. Seems like they are a rare thing. Cheers, Blair

Hi Blair,
Maybe worth contacting Classic Reproductions in the UK, CP523 is an ID plate for Auto.
I haven't been able to check if it says steering box as the server seems to be down at the moment.

No I didn't correct it, it was correct and having checked the plate it is for an Auto with power steering but I would be tempted to ask if they could do the manual steering.
