Should the underfelt be glued down also is it the same for the footwell kick panels.
Is it best to do the tunnel unit before or after carpet.

#3 Re: Carpet underfelt and glue
Mine was originally glued. When I pulled it up there was rust underneath. So I cleaned it up and treated it and just laid the underlay back down. Carpet is held by the factory plastic pins.
Each year I lift the carpets and underlay and retreat the floors. Never needed to glue them down in 20 years, and 80,000 miles.

Only glue on mine was bell housing carpet to hardura. On S3 the hardura fits together to lock itself into position. I would never add any floor glue, too easy for moisture to get trapped underneath.

On all the cars I’ve done, I used a light spray of glue on all the felt pieces. It stops any movement of the carpets and is easily pulled up if needed.

Thanks for input.
Another question which none of the books tell you in what order is it best to fit cockpit lower trim.
Underfelt, hardura on outer kick panels, covering the sills, trim on gearbox tunnel (forward piece i.e.inner kick panel).
Also why is there a large circular cut out at the rear of the gearbox tunnel cover where the seat belt mounts.
I purchased a full kit but do not seem to have anything to cover the bulkhead at the back of the seats as well what should it be covered with.
Thanks probably will not be my last post on this subject. S1 4.2 FHC
