#1 Fresh air intake on bonnet mounting

Post by phoenix » Fri Oct 06, 2023 10:11 am

I just don't seem to be able to get it high enough not to foul the heater box. Also how were they attached at factory . S1 4.2 rhd

Hi, this photo just about shows it fitted.

The top of the intake is about 1.5 inch from the bonnet.

Danny - looks like you're missing a set of the signature 'ovaloid' washers from under the bolts on your snail (picture taken from the S1 3.8 Factory Original thread):

Just a caution Bryan. The red car shown has a 3.8
housing. The 4.2 has a different style that has a pad on top so I would assume that the clearance from the bonnet is tighter than 1.5 inches. As for mounting there should be oval washers under the bolts. Look in the originality section. There are good pictures as well as descriptions.

Original poster states that he has a 4.2.

Thanks Simon, you are right, I shall order a few if I don't have them in my spares box.

Probably this is because I wasn't aware there was a difference in boxes between 3.8 and 4.2.

Early 4.2 cars had the 3.8 type fiberglass connector box as well. Not sure when the change to the later connector box occurred, but believe it was late '65.
