#1 Chrome Plating Quality - UK

Post by Phil P » Sun Oct 29, 2023 8:31 am

I've got to chrome 'plate the majority of parts for my S1 4.2 FHC. If you'd share your experiences of chrome 'plating companies in the UK in the last 6 months.... good and bad; that would be appreciated.

Many thanks,
Phil

A C F Howell in Walsall repaired and rechromed most of my E Type parts a few years ago, quality is outstanding, repairs invisible and good as the day they were done.
More recently they have rechromed my wheel spinners with equally good results.

I second that as they recently re-chromed my bumpers and headlights surrounds and did a super job, including the zamak side and rear lights. Very nice people to deal with, too.

I, too, have had excellent service and quality from ACF Howell.

They are always very busy and can appear chaotic but they have never lost anything of mine. They were recommended to me by the, much respected, late Derek Watson and have never disappointed.

Derby Plating are phenomenally good
Done my MGA, midget and 2 etypes for me.
Particularly impressed by my mashed deformed spinners …they dressed and chromed them to perfection.
My midget bumpers were done 30yrs who and are still perfect

Derby Plating are the best period. All my e-type items were chromed 15 years ago and they are as good as the day they were done. They are very expensive, but if you want the best.

Thanks for the replies and I've decided to go with ACF Howell. I had some 'plating done by them pre-pandemic and it was very good but wanted to know that their current standard was the same. You never know with changes in work force and the need to be competitive whether standards change. Derby has a good reputation but their lead time was twice that of the ACF Howell and Castle Chrome. Of course ...I could be wrong!
Many thanks again.
